trunk or treatlast night our church had a "trunk or treat" costume party (the adults give out candy from their car trunks). We had lots of fun, and mr. Daniel got some super new pajamas to wear for it :) You can see more pictures from last night on our pictures page.
teaching
Jessica got to teach a devotional for a baby shower she went to this weekend, and Seth got to sub for our Sunday School class. We are both crazy about teaching, so this was a good weekend for us :)
Daniel is VERY interested in letters. We weren't trying to teach him letters - he basically begged us to! I think his passion for shapes had a big part in that.
concert in Youghal
the "Youghal Baptist Community", which is the group we'll be working with, recently sponsored a concert in Youghal. click here to read more about it from the youghalonline website.
weekend
we had an eventful weekend. Seth's parents came into town with a group of five international graduate/post-graduate students on a weekend trip. We went hiking with them on Saturday, with Daniel in a baby backpack (it actually worked pretty well, thankfully). On Sunday Jessica had a house full of teen girls over to plan for an upcoming event that they are calling the "Generations Tea Party" where all the ladies at church will get together and serve each other in Titus 2 fashion. The girls are really excited about it, and so are we!
God at work
recently, we've gotten word from a couple of Seth's old co-workers that they are living for the Lord, involved in church and witnessing to friends and family members! wow! what an encouragement! it's just wonderful to get a peek at what God is doing, isn't it?
Virginia Beach
today we're driving across the state to Virginia Beach. We'll be driving back tomorrow, but while we're there we're going to get to see some great old friends, mostly from college. Pray that Daniel sleeps well in the car - Virginia is a pretty wide state!
quotable
The Irish Times today included an article by a Polish immigrant who had been in Ireland since 2002 and is now about to move back to Poland. In her comments about Ireland, she talked about making friends:
"To befriend an Irish person is a different story. Coming from my culture, where you say what you think, it was a mighty challenge to understand what was really said in a conversation. Freud was right in claiming it was impossible to psychoanalyze the Irish. That barrier of polite, yet distant, friendliness seemed impregnable. To my delight, I found out that it was actually soluble in alcohol. In that way, I was privileged to enter 'an inner circle of trust' and gained a few good Irish friends."
North Carolina
we took a quick trip to the Raleigh/Durham area yesterday and today. While we were there, we got to see some old friends and spend some time with Seth's grandparents - Daniel's great-grandparents! We had a great trip, and we're impressed again with how blessed we are that Daniel travels so well!
remaining training
we'll be going to CrossWorld headquarters in Philadelphia in mid-November for our final week of missionary training. We're actually going to ride the train there instead of driving, which is really exciting to us (if you've ever tried to keep a toddler in a car seat entertained for hours on end, you know why!)
Here's the main topics that we'll be covering while we're there:
conflict resolution, handling transitions, having realistic expectations, dealing with a crisis, working with a team in ministry - and the highly-important issue of how to fill out the right forms at the right times to work smoothly with the support team at headquarters.
